This is the best quality Td5 fuel filter available on the market, since Land Rover discontinued the genuine fuel filter.
Fitment of the fuel filter is very straightforward – just unscrew the old fuel filter and screw on the new one. Make sure any seals from the old filter are not stuck in the fuel filter housing. As the fuel filter is very exposed to the elements these can be quite a pig to remove, the use of our special Mahle oil and fuel filter spanner makes light work of this. Once the new filter is installed just put the ignition on (position 2) and press the throttle pedal 5 times and the priming sequence will commence (confirmed by a flashing engine management light).
Some Td5 vehicles are fitted with a water sensor, this will need to be transferred to the new Td5 fuel filter prior to fitting.
These are the same fuel filters used in our workshop and the quality from Mahle is exceptional.
We recommend inspection of the fuel filter housing itself. These are known to become porous and allow air to enter the fuel system. They can also become brittle and crack when a stubborn fuel filter is removed. New fuel filter housings come complete with filter, air bleed valve, non return and all required connections.
Should I fill the filter with fuel or fuel additive prior to fitting?
No, this is pointless. The Td5 is self-priming and as the fuel filter is located on the return anything you fill the fuel filter with will end up straight in the fuel tank. A popular additive is 2 stroke oil – if you use this (which can be good for the injectors) then be sure to use MINERAL 2 stroke oil otherwise it may not mix with the diesel and end up clogging up the fuel tank/pump.
