Factory fuel maps must cover a wide range of uses, emissions specifications and global territories. A remap will offer substantial improvement within the safe limits of the vehicle, even without any physical modifications.
At Twinwoods 4×4 we work closely with Alive Tuning to provide bespoke tuning for many Land Rover models. Most commonly we see Discovery and Defender Td5 and Puma TDCI vehicles.
Alive Tuning have been working on the Land Rover engines for 20 years, and are considered the best of the best in the industry. They have never stopped pushing the boundaries and have even taken a Defender Td5 to 310bhp/610Nm which considering the standard vehicle is 120bhp/300Nm is unbelievably impressive. This doesn’t mean it’s possible on every Td5 though! Some serious upgrades were made to enable the vehicle to achieve and cope with that level of power!
Responsible Tuning
Popcorn and rolling coal have become a bit of thing in recent years. As entertaining as it may seem it is there are lots of reasons it is the wrong thing to do. We share in Alive Tuning’s responsible tuning views. Excessive smoke is completely unnecessary. Excellent performance gains can be had without tampering with emissions equipment and throwing out plumes of smoke.
All software written by Alive Tuning is 100% safe for your vehicle.
There are plenty of tuning companies who are either happy to do smoke and popcorn maps or do not have the skill to write maps without smoke. Even though it keeps us in work selling engine parts and replacing engines, it really isn’t something we promote.
How it works
To begin with speak to us about your requirements, every vehicle is different. When you come in to us your vehicle will be given a visual inspection, diagnostics check and road test, including data logging, prior to any remapping work. If you are in any doubt about the condition of the vehicle we can also offer an in-depth physical vehicle inspection at additional cost. Very rarely if we do not feel your vehicle is up to a remap then we will discuss this with you and recommend what is required to bring the vehicle up to a good standard, although ultimately the choice will be yours.
Beyond software
Software alone will only get you so far. For a true performance upgrade some physical changes are needed to. These may include the following, depending on your goals:
- Improved brakes
- Performance intercooler
- Heavy duty clutch
- Performance exhaust
- High flow air filter
- Stronger intercooler hoses
- Suspension components
- Hybrid or VNT turbo
Worn components such as engine, gearbox and drivetrain can adversely affect outcomes. We can discuss options for all of the above and what suits your budget and goals.
